I'm excited to announce a new project I've been working on for more than a year now with Dr. Dearing Garner of Children's Emergency Relief International (CERI). On March 28th, my mother's birthday, the Don and Birdie Reeder Global Emergency Fund will begin operations. CERI works around the world with children affected by poverty, civil war, and trafficking. The Reeder Fund will be used to help children and youth around the world with legitimate emergency needs. Emergencies include war, threat of trafficking, hunger, clothing, medical care, medicines, or housing.
Those of you who know my parents know that they have made several mission trips led by Dr. Garner. This was one of their passions. Mom especially loved to help children. Both here at home, where Miss Birdie helped teach and raise several generations in the Kingwood area, and on these trips where she met thousands of children, caring for children was the one of the most important things in her life. This fund, which is starting at $50,000, is a small attempt to help carry on that legacy. We hope it will greatly increase in the future.
Being the cynical lawyer that I am, we have structured this in a way that ensures oversight and responsible expenditures, and I have faith that Dr. Garner and CERI will use these funds to help children directly.
I hope you will remember the fund and the purposes to which it is directed in your thoughts and prayers. I would also hope that those of you who may be looking for giving opportunities would think about this fund. I can provide more information to anyone who's interested. For anyone wanting to contribute to the fund, you can send a check to CERI and indicate “Reeder Global Emergency Fund” on the memo line, mail to CERI, 1442 Kingwood Drive #111, Kingwood, Texas 77339.
Thanks for your support and interest.

Chris, was wondering if I may please include the info for the Don and Birdie Reeder Global Emergency Fund on my newly christened blog?
Please let me know. Thanks!
Also, that will allow me to share the info with people on this side of the world.
All the best to you -- Ellen (fill in the blank for the last name you know me by)
Also, you will notice I avoided comment on the "I am a caring nurturer" (that was out of respect) -- and who knows? maybe it's true now :)
Not sure how to contact you. By all means please post that information if you like. Thanks for doing so and your good wishes.
