Note on Comments

Stupid computers are driving me crazy.

That, and that woman's Fem-Bot hair.

I keep getting relentless spam in the form of comments to this blog, particularly to a couple of posts I did more than a year ago. As far as I can tell (due to my "stat tracker" program), this is coming from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. If you bastards are reading, you're the devil.

The problem is anytime someone comments, I get an e-mail notifying me about it. This means that every day I receive about 10 e-mails indicating that "anonymous" has commented on one of my posts. Usually its either some sort of discount pharmaceutical ad, but in a kind of non-native english gibberish.

Its getting extremely annoying. I can't figure out how to block this spam, so I've now changed my settings to where you have to register before you can comment. Not sure whether that will work either, but at this point I'll try anything. If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know.

As I've written many times, I'm happy for anyone anywhere to comment, and its been a little disappointing that I receive few real comments. The only rules I impose are that you can't be insulting--an insult isn't an argument. On that basis I excluded a bunch of Amanda Shaw-sycophant comments during Jazz Festival. The other rule is that you can't be spam.

I'm not exactly sure how one goes about registering in this manner. Let me assure all of you, I haven't done this to track down commenters so that I can extract retribution for contrary views. Not only do I not have time to do so, I'm too fundamentally lazy. And probably I would forget what I was doing midway into planning my evil revenge plot. Or what day of the week it was.

If anyone wants to comment and can't figure out how to register, let me know and I'll try to address it.

In the meantime, party on and enjoy your summer!

Eliminating the anonymous feature usually kills the majority of SPAM.
