Miss Teen South Carolina

We deal with the difficult issues here, as you know, and nothing is troubling me as much at the moment as the video of the aforementioned young lady, Lauren Upton, making the rounds.

As you'd imagine, my first instinct was to just crush this girl. I pretty much have an Adam Smith world view (its the romantic in me), and believe that, like markets, society has to punish stupidity to deter it in the future. Really, there's far too much acceptance of mediocrity. Plus, she looks like someone who's going to spend the next few years ripping the still-beating heart out of dozens of guys like me (or someone with enough game to get closer to her than me), and I think we can all agree that a person's looks are a completely reliable guide to their personality, so she got what she deserved.

But everyone on the internet is lighting this girl up, and its really no fun nailing someone when there's no degree of difficulty. I also realized that this poor girl sounded pretty much like I did the first time I had a hearing in state district court. I basically just remember babbling on with a dry mouth and crazy eyes like I was having some Jim Morrison peyote freak-out when it was my turn to argue. The only difference was there wasn't a youtube for everyone in the world to watch. Then I thought, how can anyone slam Ms. Upton when this former-Klansman guy, and this guy, and this guy, get praise heaped on them despite sounding even less coherent than this poor girl? And the Decider. By the way, has anyone ever met Gib Lewis? (I have and I love the Gibber). And did none of you watch (UT alumnus and Tri-Delt) Farrah on Letterman? How can you slam this girl when these people roam free? So she confused South Africa and the USA, big deal. Half of Congress probably couldn't tell the difference either.

Also notice on the clip 18 year old twinkie of the month Aimee Teegarden, who asked the question, snickering. Uh, Aimee, stick with Hannah Montana and leave the tough questions to the pros.

Last thing, if you don't really listen to what Lauren is saying, and just watch and hear, you won't notice anything wrong. At all. Kinda looks like MSNBC.

So I say, let small fish go free. Lets go after people who deserve it.

Sorry to prolong this, but this also reminds me of a story my friend Debi told me years ago. Debi won Miss Congeniality in the Miss Texas pageant the year she competed. She said that the year before, the press was interviewing Miss Congeniality, and when asked how it felt to win the award, she said "I'm just glad that bitch from Dallas didn't get it." I love Texas women.

Hello, darling! I'm late to your party, but I had to get a google account first, a process that meant I had to navigate away and return. It seemed too trying originally.

I agree folks should leave her alone, but you have to realize most folks don't have the wit to flame the folks who deserve it. :D

BTW--you heard it here first: We're probably moving back to Houston over Christmas. Huzzah!
